Badger!

A new sight and a thrilling one in the garden this evening. After dark, I sometimes switch on the light that illuminates the back lawn, just in case there's something intertesting out there. This evening, feeding under the plum tree, a badger. It's the first time I've had one in the garden, and it's the closest I've ever been to one. I am not sure what it was feeding on - bits dropped from the bird feeders perhaps - but tomorrow night, if it returns, it will find a decent supper of peanuts and raisins, and possibly a spoonful of Pedigree Chum.

You are very privileged. I've never seen one that close.

Perhaps not raisins in the banquet - those can kill dogs faster than dichlofenac kills Old World Vultures. And Mustelidae are distant relatives of Canidae.

Thanks, Mike and Ann. I agree, and it is a great joy to me to see my garden being used by wildlife (with the possible exception of rats!).
No worries, Anon, I put out sultanas. The badger appeared the second night but has not returned since. Guess I'll have to wait another 25 years for the next one....

By raisins I had in mind all forms of 'raisin sec', including currents and sultanas. Following the visit, did you notice if it had eaten any sultanas?
