Stariy bit

It means "the old way of life". They're not writing tractors like this one any more. Or women like this one. Does anyone know the Russian for "we should be grateful for small mercies"?

I agree, Charles, that the symbolism is rather arcane! I thought maybe it was a feminist thing, and that she was showing that there's more to being a woman than Kinder, Kueche and Kirche, as the Germans (used to) say.
